COMCAST THOMPSON DCI-1011 DTA BOX IR RECEPTION DIFFICULTY USING IR BLASTER AND REPLAYTV
I ran into a problem using the Comcast Thompson brand DTA box with my Replaytv's. First off, it does require a custom IR code be installed into the Replaytv software in order to control it. After the custom IR code is installed in your replay hard drive and is configured correctly in Replaytv setup. It ignored the IR blaster signals, when the IR blaster eye is adhered directly to the DTA box (over the IR receiver). After relocating the blaster eye 1 inch out in front of the DTA IR receiver window, it did respond to channel change commands from my Replaytvís. I did not have this problem with the Pace brand DTA box. Since I didnít care to rig a permanent method for the blaster eye to stay in this position, I decided to try the direct cable available on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/TiVo-Comcast-DTA-Cable-/220627222273?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item335e683f01
This cable works consistently well, except for certain channel selections like 44 tuning to 4 or 66 tuning to 6. I found changing the IR fine tuning in Replaytv setup to those seen in the attached photo resolved the problem.
To access IR code fine tuning. First have the appropriate IR code highlighted (note: the custom DTA IR code I load into your software may not be 2009 as seen in the pic), and then press the Zones button on the remote. Make sure you select Keep All Settings or the changes will not take effect.
I am now using several of Gray's direct cables to control my Comcast Pace, Thompson and RNG100 HD boxes using Replaytvís.
